wolf-pack-howling

The hunters rejoice
Anticipating the feast
First, the pack leader
Slender and powerful
Of mottled grey coat
With eyes to the stars
Emits a long, deep, haunting howl
Now clear voices, high and low
Rise in harmony to the heavens
Cubs yip and whine
Tails wagging in abandon
For they too will eat tonight
